Gender Reveal celebrations are a big thing now. Not knowing the sex for either of our pregnancies helped me a lot those last few weeks, especially considering they were both late! As their due dates came and went, not knowing kept me engaged on a very basic level with the thrill that would be revealed when they were born.
For some, decorating a room and gathering the components of a wardrobe according to an aesthetic they associate with being male or female are meaningful acts of preparation. For others, the awareness in advance of whether the new life they are about to usher in is a girl or a boy short-circuits their perception of the process, which is at its most fundamental level both mysterious and surprising at nearly every turn.
